Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.
The Taiex Index rose 0.7 percent to 7,130.86.
Compal Communications Inc. (8078 TT) surged 7 percent to NT$48.45. The handset maker’s December sales more than tripled from a year earlier to NT$4.51 billion ($149 million), according to a statement filed to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Quanta Computer Inc. (2382 TT) gained 1.3 percent to NT$65, the highest close since Aug. 3. The world’s largest contract maker of notebook computers sued Advanced Micro Devices Inc. for breach of contract, alleging the chipmaker sold defective products. “AMD disputes the allegations in Quanta’s complaint and believes they are without merit,” Sunnyvale, California-based AMD’s spokesman, Michael Silverman, said in an e-mailed message.
Pegatron Corp. (4938 TT) increased 1.3 percent to NT$36.05, the highest close since Feb. 21. The electronics maker’s December sales jumped 83 percent from a year earlier to NT$35.5 billion, according to a statement to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Wistron Corp. (3231 TT) advanced 2.1 percent to NT$39.80, the highest close since Aug. 16. The laptop maker’s December sales gained 26 percent to NT$61.4 billion from a year earlier, it said in a statement to the stock exchange.
