Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.
The Taiex Index rose 1.5 percent to 7,053.38, the biggest gain since Dec. 23.
Advantech Co. (2395 TT) climbed 2.6 percent to NT$84.20, the highest close since Dec. 7. Advantech bought 18 million shares of Advansus Corp. for NT$306 million ($10.1 million) from Pegatron Corp. (4938 TT). Pegatron advanced 2.8 percent to NT$33.30, the highest since Nov. 4.
VIA Technologies Inc. (2388 TT) fell 1.9 percent to NT$15.35, the lowest close since Dec. 19. The maker of integrated chipsets said its unconsolidated sales in December dropped 31 percent from a year earlier to NT$267.3 million, according to a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange.
Wintek Corp. (2384 TT) added 1.6 percent to NT$22, the highest close since Dec. 5. The maker of liquid-crystal displays said December consolidated sales rose 34 percent from a year earlier to NT$10.6 billion. Consolidated sales for 2011 increased 45 percent to NT$93.8 billion, it said in a stock-exchange filing.
