Jan. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The Denver Broncos won the American Football Conference West to reach the National Football League playoffs for the first time since 2005, while the Cincinnati Bengals took a wild-card place.
Denver lost 7-3 to the Kansas City Chiefs, while the San Diego Chargers beat the Oakland Raiders 38-26. The Broncos, Raiders and Chargers all ended the season with 8-8 records, with Denver taking the division title on a tiebreaker.
Cincinnati dropped to 9-7 after a 24-16 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.
The New York Jets lost 19-17 against the Miami Dolphins today to miss the postseason for the first time in three years.
The regular season concludes tonight with the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys. The winner advances to the playoffs as the National Football Conference East champion. The losing team’s season is over.
