Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Jaime Chazatar, mayor-elect of the municipality of Santa Cruz-Guachaves in Southern Colombia, was killed by gunmen, the Spanish-language newswire Efe reported.
Two men shot Chazatar in front of his home today, Efe said, citing Fabio Trujillo, secretary of the government in the Colombian department of Narino.
Chazatar was supposed to assume the position of mayor of Santa Cruz-Guachaves tomorrow, Efe reported. He was elected in October, running as a candidate for the Indigenous Authorities of Colombia party, Efe said.
