Fenninger Earns First World Cup Victory in Lienz Giant Slalom

Dec. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Anna Fenninger won today’s giant slalom for her first success in skiing’s World Cup, with overall leader Lindsey Vonn finishing fifth in Lienz, Austria.

Fenninger, 22, of Austria posted a time of 2 minutes, 16.08 seconds over two runs to beat Italy’s Federica Brignone by 0.2 seconds, with France’s Tessa Worley in third.

Germany’s Viktoria Rebensburg, who heads the giant slalom competition through three races, was fourth, ahead of Vonn of the U.S. who leads second-place Fenninger by 231 points in the overall standings.

Fenninger, who won the super-combined at this year’s world championships, had been sixth after the first leg today.

There is a slalom race in Lienz tomorrow, while the men have a downhill in Bormio, Italy.
