Chelsea May Sell Torres for $47 Million Loss: Soccer Roundup

Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a roundup of soccer stories from U.K. newspapers, with clickable links to the Web.

Torres for Sale?

Chelsea may sell Fernando Torres for 20 million pounds ($31 million), a loss of 30 million pounds since the striker joined from Liverpool in January, the Daily Mail reported.

The Spaniard, the most expensive player in British transfer history at 50 million pounds, has struggled to find his form after he switched from Liverpool to the London club. The player is paid 150,000 pounds a week, and has scored four goals this season.

Spurs Eyeing Tevez

Tottenham may offer 20 million pounds for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, the Sun reported.

The Argentina player, who is paid 198,000 pounds a week, was suspended by Manchester City in September after manager Roberto Mancini said he refused to come on as a substitute during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

“There’s definite interest,” the paper quoted an unnamed source at Spurs as saying. “The big stumbling block could be whether or not City are prepared to do business with a team now regarded as one of their rivals for the title.”

De Jong QPR-Bound?

Queens Park Rangers boss Neil Warnock is trying to sign Manchester City striker Nigel de Jong for the rest of the season, the Daily Star reported.

The Holland international has not started a match for City since November. De Jong, whose contract expires at the end of next season, wants City to offer him a new agreement.

Krasic on Loan to United?

Juventus player Milos Krasic may join Manchester United on a loan deal in January, the Daily Mirror reported.

Chelsea and AC Milan are also interested in the winger, who is valued at 15 million pounds by Juventus.
