Celtics Sign Daniels, Dooling, Wilcox as NBA Adopts Free Agency

Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Boston Celtics signed guards Marquis Daniels and Keyon Dooling, forward Chris Wilcox and center Greg Stiemsma on the first day of free agency in the National Basketball Association.

Terms of the agreements weren’t disclosed, the team said.

Daniels, 30, who also plays forward, appeared in 49 games for the Celtics, averaging 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds last season. During his three years with the team, he has averaged 5.6 points and hit 49.5 percent from the floor.

Wilcox, 29, played in 57 games for the Detroit Pistons last season, averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds and hitting a team-high 58.1 percent from the field.

Stiemsma. 26, last played for the Sioux Fall Sky Force of the NBA Development League where he averaged 9.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in four games.

Dooling, 31, and a protected second-round draft pick were acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for the draft rights to Albert Miralles which were obtained Aug. 3, 2005, when the Celtics traded Antoine Walker to the Miami Heat in a five-team trade. Dooling was in a career-high 80 games last season with Milwaukee, leading the franchise with assists in 20 games and steals in 14 contests.

The Celtics were close to signing free agent forward David West, 31, who has been with the New Orleans Hornets since 2003, NBA.com reported, citing a person familiar with the negotiations. The two-time All-Star is coming off a rehabilitation stint for a torn ACL.

Earlier yesterday, the Celtics acquired forward Brandon Bass, 26, from the Orlando Magic for 25-year-old forward Glen Davis, Yahoo! Sports.com reported.
