Comcast to Discontinue Clearwire Wireless Service in Six Months

Comcast Corp., the largest U.S. cable company, will stop offering wireless service through partner Clearwire Corp. within six months, according to Neil Smit, a Comcast executive vice president.

Comcast will make the shift as it begins offering its customers mobile-phone service from Verizon Wireless, Smit said in an interview today. Comcast has 30,000 wholesale customers through Clearwire.

Time Warner Cable, which is also aligning with Verizon Wireless, will stop selling Clearwire service to new customers within six months too, Alex Dudley, a spokesman for Time Warner Cable, said in a separate interview. The cable operator has 27,000 customers through Clearwire.
