Indian Equities: Ansal Housing Rises, Ranbaxy Laboratories Falls

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Indian trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 3:30 p.m. close in Mumbai.

The BSE India Sensitive Index, or Sensex, gained 0.7 percent to 16,123.46. The BSE-200 Index advanced 0.3 percent to 1,953.03.

Ansal Housing & Construction Ltd. (AHCL IN) jumped by its daily 20-percent limit to 38.75 rupees, the most since Sept. 7, 2001. The developer said its board will consider Dec. 2 a proposal to buy back shares.

Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. (RBXY IN) lost 3.9 percent to 434.65 rupees, the lowest price in a week. The shares of the drugmaker, which is counting on copies of Pfizer Inc.’s Lipitor to bolster U.S. sales, declined as the Indian company awaited final clearance from U.S. regulators to sell its copy of the world’s best-selling drug.
