Nov. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Bauxite production in Guinea, the world’s biggest exporter of the ore, increased 5 percent to 12.7 million metric tons in the first nine months of 2011, the Finance Ministry said.
Production of alumina increased 21 percent to 499,650 tons in the period through September, while diamond output rose 12 percent to 223,570 carats, the Finance Ministry said in a statement handed to reporters today in Conakry, the capital.
Gold output declined 36 percent to 387,860 ounces from 602,990 ounces last year, the ministry said. Production of cocoa soared to 34,030 tons, compared with 3,950 tons a year earlier, according to the report.
The amount of coffee grown declined 1.4 percent to 22,920 tons while palm oil produced rose 56 percent to 7,870, the ministry said.
