New York Gasoline Strengthens After PBF Refinery Power Outage

New York gasoline strengthened after PBF Energy Partners LP shut units at the Delaware City refinery in Delaware because of a power outage.

PBF is working to start units that shut late yesterday after the power loss at 7:15 p.m. local time, Michael Gayda, president of the company, said in a telephone interview. The system is being repaired and the failure is under investigation, he said.

The premium for conventional gasoline to be blended with ethanol, or CBOB, in New York Harbor gained 0.13 cent to 0.38 cent versus futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange at 12:02 p.m., according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Prompt delivery rose 6.2 cents to $2.5134 a gallon.

Irving Oil Corp. completed maintenance at the Saint John refinery in New Brunswick and restored production, Samantha Robinson, a spokeswoman for the company, said in an e-mail.

Irving began the turnaround project in September, which focused mainly on the plant’s butamer and alkylation units. The 298,800-barrel-a-day refinery exports more than half of its production to the U.S. Northeast, according to Irving’s website.
