Blogger ‘Guido Fawkes’ Summoned by Judge Over Leaked Evidence

Paul Staines, who writes the “Guido Fawkes” blog of U.K. political gossip, was summoned to appear at an inquiry into media standards after he published evidence submitted to the probe by Alastair Campbell, who was spokesman for former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Brian Leveson, the judge chairing the inquiry into press standards set up by Prime Minister David Cameron, opened today’s hearing saying he was “concerned about the security” of written evidence, which is available to newspaper groups and victims of phone-hacking participating in the inquiry.

At the close of the day’s testimony, Leveson said he wanted Staines to take down Campbell’s statement and appear Dec. 1 to explain his actions.

“I haven’t received an order,” Staines said in a telephone interview today. “I await it with interest.”
