U.K. Union Chief Says Strike May Trigger More Action, Times Says

Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Britain’s top labor union leader said next week’s strike by public workers over their pension rights may be the start of further protests, the Times reported.

Brendan Barber, the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, told the London-based newspaper in an interview that the strike on Nov. 30 could trigger further action.

The protests may shut schools, halt garbage collections and force hospitals to operate with fewer employees after 29 unions voted to take part, the newspaper said. The dispute may cost the British economy as much as 500 million pounds ($772 million), according to the newspaper.
