Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Ted Baker Plc, the U.K. clothing company that dressed James Bond actor Daniel Craig in the movie Casino Royale, expects improved Christmas sales this year, Finance Director Lindsay Page said.
“Christmas will be good,” Page said in a phone interview today. “It will be slightly better than last year” when heavy snow in Britain affected sales, he said.
Bad weather last December reduced sales by at least 3 percentage points, Page said in January. They rose 7.6 percent in the holiday period last year. Ted Baker is weathering weakened consumer sentiment “pretty well,” and expects full-year sales to be better than last year, Page said.
U.K. consumer confidence dropped to a record low in October as Europe’s sovereign debt crisis and the unemployment outlook worsened, the Nationwide Building Society said today.
Ted Baker’s group revenue rose 7.8 percent in the 13 weeks to Nov. 12, the London-based company said in a statement today.
Ted Baker will start business in South Korea by June next year, Page said. The company will take up dedicated space within large department stores in one or two locations, he said.
