Sudan Inflation Slows to 19.8% in October as Food Costs Drop

Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Sudan’s inflation rate declined to 19.8 percent in October from 20.7 percent in September as food prices dropped, the Khartoum-based Central Bureau of Statistics said.

Prices of food and drinks, the biggest component in the consumer price index, decreased by 4.9 percent from the previous month, said the Khartoum-based agency, which monitors inflation in Sudan’s northern states, said today in an e-mailed statement. Inflation slowed for the second straight month.

The highest inflation rates were recorded in the states of North Darfur, with 38.5 percent, and the border states of Southern Kordofan, with 34.8 percent, and Blue Nile with 30.4 percent.

Sudan is targeting inflation of 12 percent and economic growth of 5 percent this year, according to Finance Minister Ali Mahmoud Abdel Rasoul.
