Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Greece’s opposition New Democracy expelled Sotiris Hatzigakis from its parliamentary group after he said there were “far-right” elements in the party.
Parliament Speaker Filippos Petsalnikos was notified of the lawmaker’s expulsion in a letter sent today by party leader Antonis Samaras. “Sotiris Hatzigakis’s statements offend the parliament members and officials of the party,” it said.
“I have been serving New Democracy for 37 years and I feel sorry that it ended up like this in the hands of Antonis Samaras,” Hatzigakis told reporters on his way to parliament today in Athens.
