Howard Stern Said to Be in Talks With ’America’s Got Talent’

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Sirius XM Radio Inc. host Howard Stern is in talks with Comcast Corp.’s NBC Universal to become a judge on the “America’s Got Talent” television show, said a person familiar with the negotiations.

Stern would replace Piers Morgan and join incumbent judges Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, said the person, who declined to be named because the negotiations are private. NBC and Stern are discussing a salary of $15 million a year, the person said.

NBC, based in New York, is seeking to boost its primetime television ratings, which have sunk 14 percent this year, as of Oct. 23. New shows “Free Agents” and “The Playboy Club” have already been canceled.

The channel remains in fourth place behind CBS, Fox and ABC in primetime ratings. NBC Universal Chief Executive Officer Stephen Burke said in September that “NBC is so far behind” that improving from fourth place to third place would be “a major opportunity.”

Stern would continue to host his satellite-radio show if he accepts the role on “America’s Got Talent,” the person said.

Don Buchwald, Stern’s agent, and Rebecca Marks, an NBC spokeswoman, didn’t immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
