Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Russia and the Czech Republic are tied 1-1 after the opening day of the Fed Cup tennis final in Moscow.
Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova gave the Czechs a 1-0 lead by beating Maria Kirilenko 6-2, 6-2 in the day’s first singles match. Two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuzentsova then pulled the home side even with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lucie Safarova.
The best-of-five final in women’s tennis’s top team competition concludes tomorrow with two reverse singles and a doubles match.
