Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Kei Nishikori upset top-ranked Novak Djokovic in three sets in the Swiss Indoor tennis semifinals in Basel.
Nishikori, ranked 32nd by the ATP World Tour, won 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 to become the first Japanese player to defeat a player ranked No. 1 in the world. He’ll face the winner of an all-Swiss semifinal between Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka in tomorrow’s final.
Djokovic, who received treatement for a shoulder injury during the match, suffered just his fourth loss in 71 matches this year. He’s won 11 tournaments, including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open.
