Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Bangladesh said it will sign a government-to-government deal with Russia to build a nuclear power plant.

Bangladesh’s Atomic Energy Commission and Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corp. will sign the deal in Dhaka today, the government’s Press Information Department said in a statement.

The 2,000-megawatt project in Rooppur in northwestern Bangladesh will be built at a cost of $2 billion by 2018, according to the official Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, citing Yeafesh Osman, state minister for science and information and communication technology.

Bangladesh, where more than half of the 166 million population don’t have access to electricity, plans to spend $10 billion over a decade to increase power capacity and attract investments from abroad. The government said on Sept. 11 it will ask international companies to submit bids to build seven power plants with a combined capacity of 1,455 megawatts.
