Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Hurricane Rina developed today in the western Caribbean Sea and will probably strengthen further as it moves to the northwest, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in a special advisory at 2 p.m. East Coast time.

Rina’s top winds are 75 miles (121 kilometers) per hour, up from 40 earlier today, making it a Category 1 hurricane, the center said. The system may become a major storm by late tomorrow, according to the NHC.
