Mexico City Helicopter Crash Kills 2, Wounds State Minister

Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) -- A helicopter crashed in the Coyoacan area of Mexico City, killing two people and injuring a state of Mexico minister and a pilot, all of whom were aboard the aircraft, Mexico City Attorney General Miguel Angel Mancera told reporters.

Fernando Alberto Garcia, the state’s minister of metropolitan development, and the pilot, were both hospitalized, Mancera said. The dead were identified as an assistant to the minister and a second pilot, Mancera added.

The helicopter was owned by the Mexico state government, El Universal reported.

Mexico state Governor Eruviel Avila told reporters that his government will conduct an investigation into what he called an accident and will review conditions of state government aircraft.

Video footage of the wreckage shows the helicopter was crushed against a wall on the sidewalk of a tree-lined avenue.

In 2008, a small jet carrying Mexico’s interior minister crashed into a busy Mexico City street, killing the minister and 14 others. An investigation found no foul play involved.
