Cadbury to Spend $50 Million on Boosting Ghana Cocoa Production

Oct. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Cadbury Ghana Ltd. will spend $50 million over the next 10 years to improve cocoa production in the second-biggest producer of the chocolate ingredient,

The funding, at $5 million annually, will “enhance productivity, build social infrastructure and capacity for Ghanaian cocoa farmers,” James Boateng, managing director of the local unit of Cadbury Plc, the food maker acquired last year by Kraft Foods Inc., said in an interview today in Accra, the capital.

Ghana and Cadbury started a partnership in 2008 to boost cocoa yields through programs including provision of fertilizers, chemicals and spraying machines.
