America Movil, Bolsa, CSN, HRT: Latin America’s Equity Preview

The following companies may have unusual price changes in Latin American trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices reflect the previous close.

The MSCI Latin America Index fell 0.6 percent to 3,202.52.


Cia. Siderurgica Nacional SA (CSNA3 BS): Brazil’s third-biggest steelmaker was cut to “neutral” from “overweight” at HSBC Holdings Plc. The stock dropped 1.9 percent to 13.64 reais.

HRT Participacoes em Petroleo SA (HRTP3 BS): The Brazilian oil exploration company said Namibia’s government extended the exploration period for three blocks off the coast of the African nation. The Mines and Energy Ministry granted the extension for blocks 2815, 2816 and 2915 for an additional two years, HRT said yesterday in a regulatory filing. The shares fell 8.3 percent to 650.00 reais.

Net Servicos de Comunicacao SA (NETC4 BS): The company, Embratel Participacoes SA (EBTP4 BS) and Claro SA, a unit of America Movil SAB (AMXL MM), will make a joint announcement today in a press conference with their chief executives in Sao Paulo, according to an e-mail statement from the companies’ press offices. They declined to provide details on the subject of the press conference. Net Servicos, Brazil’s largest cable company, declined 1.5 percent to 14.75 reais. Embratel was unchanged at 9 reais.

Tim Participacoes SA (TIMP3 BS): Brazil’s second-largest wireless carrier is raising 1.7 billion reais ($915 million) in a primary offering. The company priced the shares at 8.60 reais each, according to a regulatory filing today. The shares sank 3.6 percent to 8.68 reais.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PETR4 BS): Workers of Brazil’s state-controlled oil producer will meet on Oct. 11 to discuss a possible strike. The workers plan to demand a 10 percent raise over inflation and better work and security conditions, the union known as FUP said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. Shares of Petrobras climbed 0.8 percent to 18.55 reais.


Retailers, Homebuilders: Mexico’s economy will grow 3.8 percent this year, according to the median estimate of economists surveyed by Citigroup Inc.’s Banamex unit.

Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB (WALMEXV MM), Latin America’s largest retailer, gained 2 percent to 32.78 pesos. El Puerto de Liverpool SAB (LIVEPOLC MM), the Mexican luxury-goods retailer, fell 0.4 percent to 88.28 pesos. Desarrolladora Homex SAB (HOMEX* MM), Mexico’s largest homebuilder, fell 3.6 percent to 29.54 pesos.

America Movil SAB (AMXL MM): The wireless carrier controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim, plans to sell 20 billion yen ($261 million) of Samurai bonds in four tranches this month, according to a filing today with Japan’s finance ministry. Samurai bonds are yen-denominated debt sold in Japan by overseas borrowers. The shares slipped 1.1 percent to 15 pesos.

Bolsa Mexicana de Valores SAB (BOLSAA MM): The operator of Mexico’s securities exchange was raised to “buy” from “underperform” at Banco Santander SA. The brokerage set an end-2012 share-price estimate of 24 pesos. The stock retreated 1 percent to 19.02 pesos.

Grupo Carso SAB (GCARSOA1 MM): The holding company controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim was raised to “hold” at Citigroup Inc. The shares declined 1.9 percent to 31.46 pesos.
