Taiwan’s Equity Movers: China Airlines, HTC Corp. Advance

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 1:30 p.m. close in Taipei.

The Taiex Index rose 57.03 points, or 0.8 percent, to 7,146.98, the second day of gains.

China Airlines Ltd. (2610 TT) gained 1.1 percent to NT$14.50, the highest close since Sept. 9. Taiwan’s largest carrier expects revenue to rise after it joins the SkyTeam alliance as services will be extended to 926 destinations in 173 countries, spokesman Hamilton Liu said by phone today.

HTC Corp. (2498 TT) surged 7 percent to NT$691, the biggest gain since February 2009. The company’s patent infringement complaint seeking to block U.S. imports of Apple Inc.’s iPhone, iPad and Mac computers will be investigated by a trade agency. Taoyuan, Taiwan-based HTC, Asia’s second-biggest maker of smartphones, filed the case last month against Cupertino, California-based Apple.
