Sri Lanka Builds 112-Run Lead Against Australia in Third Test

Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Sri Lanka ended day three of the third cricket Test against Australia with a 112-run lead as it targets a victory to tie the series.

Angelo Mathews was 85 not out as the hosts reached 428-6 in their first innings in Colombo, with Shaminda Eranga unbeaten on 5. Tillakaratne Dilshan hit 83, while Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene also got half-centuries.

Mathews shared a 121-run fifth-wicket partnership with Dilshan to take Sri Lanka past Australia’s total of 316 all out, then combined with Prasanna Jayawardene for 81 runs.

Australia won the opener of the three-game series by 125 runs, while the second Test was drawn. Australia will move above Sri Lanka to fourth in the International Cricket Council Test rankings by winning the series.
