Ethanol Is Capping Global Sugar Production, ISO’s Baron Says

Aug. 15 (Bloomberg) -- The production of ethanol is putting a ceiling on global output of sugar and ethanol-blend mandates are “spreading like bushfires,” said Peter Baron, executive director of the International Sugar Organization, at a conference in the Philippines.

"Ethanol mandates are spreading like bushfires and this is irreversible," said Baron. Biofuel is capping sugar-output growth in countries including Brazil, Thailand and India, he said.
