Thailand Stocks: Asia Plus, BEC World, Siam Commercial Samaggi

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 4:30 p.m. close in Bangkok.

The SET Index fell 0.85 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 1,133.53. The gauge gained 8.8 percent this month, the biggest monthly advance since March 2010.

Asia Plus Securities Pcl (ASP TB), Thailand’s third-biggest stock brokerage by market value, dropped 2 percent to 2.98 baht, the steepest decline since July 12. The company’s second-quarter profit fell 9.5 percent to 111.6 million baht ($3.75 million).

BEC World Pcl (BEC TB), an operator of television network, increased 3.8 percent to 41 baht, a record close. It earlier surged as much as 11 percent. The company is unaware of any reason for a surge in its share price, Chatchai Thiamtong, vice president for finance, said by phone from Bangkok today.

LH Financial Group Pcl (LHBANK TB), a financial company, climbed 1.20 percent to 1.68 baht, the biggest increase since July 7. Land & Houses Retail Bank, LH Financial’s banking unit, expects to receive government approval to become a full-service commercial bank by the fourth quarter.

The bank, which has already submitted the necessary documents to the central bank, is waiting for approval from the new finance minister, President Sasitorn Phongsathorn told reporters yesterday.

Siam Commercial Samaggi Insurance Pcl (SCSMG TB), an insurance company, gained 2.1 percent to 49 baht, the first increase in five days. Net income in the second quarter climbed 58 percent to 78.8 million baht.
