The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index declined 197.11, or 0.6 percent, to 31,863.73 by the 5 p.m. close in Johannesburg.
ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd. (ACL SJ): Africa’s largest steelmaker releases first-half earnings. Shares in the company fell 1.4 percent to 74.20 rand.
Brait SA (BAT SJ): South Africa’s largest private equity company holds its annual general meeting. The stock rose 0.1 percent to 17.86 rand.
Chrometco Ltd. (CMO SJ): The chrome development company holds a general meeting of shareholders. The shares slumped 8.8 percent to 31 cents.
Medi-Clinic Corp. (MDC SJ): South Africa’s second-largest publicly traded private hospital holds its annual general meeting. Shares of the company rose 0.1 percent to 32.22 rand.
Nampak Ltd. (NPK SJ): The packaging company holds its annual general meeting. The stock declined 0.2 percent to 22.45 rand.
Optimum Coal Holdings Ltd. (OPT SJ): The coal miner holds a general meeting of shareholders. Shares in the company fell 2 percent to 24.50 rand.
