Springbok Captain Smit to Join Saracens After Rugby World Cup

July 13 (Bloomberg) -- South Africa captain John Smit will join English Premiership champion Saracens after playing at the Rugby World Cup later this year.

The 33-year-old holds the world mark for most matches played as captain and most as hooker. He also is the Springbok’s most-capped forward.

Smit played with the Natal Sharks and the Sharks. He’ll join former teammates Deon Carstens and Brad Barritt at Saracens.

“I am delighted to have signed for a club widely renowned for the ferocious work ethic and spirit on the field and for the unique way it treats people off the field,” Smit said in a statement.
