June 17 (Bloomberg) -- Indian power utilities are seeking to buy as much as 5.8 million metric tons of coal and may award contracts to a domestic state trading company, India Coal Market Watch said, citing an unidentified official at a trading firm.
Damodar Valley Corp., NTPC-SAIL Power Co. and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board may award contracts this month, the coal newsletter said, citing the official. Calls to the chairman’s office at Tamil Nadu, the operations department at Damodar and NTPC’s switchboard weren’t answered.
