NFL Meets With Players in Contract Talks as Lockout Continues

June 8 (Bloomberg) -- Representatives of the National Football League and its players took part in confidential talks before Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan this week aimed at ending a three-month-old lockout in the U.S.’s most-popular sport.

The meeting was announced in a joint statement today from the league and the NFL Players Association. It gave no details on the length or substance of the talks, or if more meetings are planned.

Commissioner Roger Goodell and team owners John Mara of the New York Giants, Jerry Richardson of the Carolina Panthers, Clark Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs, Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots and Dean Spanos of the San Diego Chargers represented the league. NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith led the players’ delegation, which also included Kevin Mawae, Jeff Saturday, Mike Vrabel, Tony Richardson and Domonique Foxworth.
