Japan May Drop 25% Emissions Cut Target From Bill, Kyodo Reports

June 6 (Bloomberg) -- Japan may drop a reference to a target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020 in a revised climate-change bill under deliberation in parliament, Kyodo News reported yesterday.

Sakihito Ozawa, a lawmaker of the ruling Democratic Party and chairman of the environment committee of the lower house, proposed dropping the reference in a draft of the bill, Kyodo said. The main opposition Liberal Democratic Party is seeking the withdrawal of the legislation, according to Kyodo.
