Lanco Wins Bid for India’s Largest Solar Photovoltaic Plant

May 26 (Bloomberg) -- Lanco Infratech Ltd., an Indian infrastructure company, and Germany’s Juwi Holding AG have won a contract to build an 8.84 billion rupee ($195 million) solar photovoltaic plant, the largest in the Asian nation.

Lanco Solar, a unit of the Hyderabad-based energy and infrastructure company, and Juwi’s local unit plan to complete the 75-megawatt project owned by Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. by February 2012, Lanco said in an e-mailed statement.

Photovoltaic plants directly convert sunlight into electricity using semiconductors.

The project will be located in Dhule district in the western state of Maharashtra, Lanco said. Equipment suppliers are still to be decided, Lanco Solar Chief Executive Officer V. Saibaba said in an interview today in Gurgaon near the capital of New Delhi.
