African Bank, Famous Brands, Lewis: South Africa Equity Preview

May 23 (Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.

The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index dropped 124.80, or 0.4 percent, to 31,794.13 in Johannesburg, giving a decline of 0.5 percent for the week.

African Bank Investments Ltd. (ABL SJ): The financial-services provider releases first-half earnings. The stock fell 1.29 rand, or 3.6 percent, to 34.20 rand.

Verimark Holdings Ltd. (VMK SJ): The retailer of fitness equipment and household goods reports full-year earnings. Its shares gained 5 cents, or 3 percent, to 1.70 rand.

Famous Brands Ltd. (FBR SJ): The country’s biggest fast-food franchise owner posts full-year earnings. Famous added 8 cents, or 0.2 percent, to 43.81 rand.

Lewis Group Ltd. (LEW SJ): The furniture and electrical-goods retailer posts full-year earnings. Lewis fell 90 cents, or 1.2 percent, to 76.60 rand.

The following stocks begin trading without the right to their latest dividends:

Afrimat Ltd. (AFT SJ), Barloworld Ltd. (BAW SJ), Basil Read Holdings Ltd. (BSR SJ), Capital Shopping Centres Group Plc (CSO SJ), ELB Group Ltd. (ELR SJ), Life Healthcare Group Holdings Ltd. (LHC SJ), Mvelaphanda Resources Ltd. (MVL SJ), Oasis Crescent Property Fund (OAS SJ).

Shares or American depositary receipts of the following companies active in the country closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUKY US) fell 1.1 percent to $23.83. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) gained 0.4 percent to $45.80. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) slid 0.7 percent to $76.55. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) increased 1.3 percent to $5.28. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) rose 0.7 percent to $15.68. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) dropped 0.2 percent to $13.48. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) declined 0.7 percent to $26.39. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) lost 1.1 percent to $5.21. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) dropped 1.3 percent to $51.79.
