South Africa Stocks: Buildmax, Mvelaphanda Resources, Seardel

The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index declined 124.80, or 0.4 percent, to 31,794.13 by the 5 p.m. close in Johannesburg, extending the loss this week to 0.5 percent.

The following were among the most active stocks in the South African market today.

Africa Cellular Towers Ltd. (ATR SJ), a steel communication-tower maker, dropped to its lowest since March 15, losing 2 cents, or 14 percent, to 12 cents. The company reported a loss of 133.1 million rand ($19 million) for the year through February, compared with a loss of 92.3 million rand a year earlier.

Buildmax Ltd. (BDM SJ), the building-materials supplier, jumped the most since May 11, gaining 7.7 percent to 14 cents, after saying its fiscal full-year loss improved by as much as 90 percent.

Mvelaphanda Resources Ltd. (MVL SJ), a mining investment company, advanced to its highest since at least 1990, gaining

8.4 percent to 4.67 rand, after saying it will pay a special dividend of 31 cents a share.

Seardel Investment Corp. (SER SJ), South Africa’s biggest clothing and textile-maker, rose the most since Jan. 28, increasing 5 cents, or 6.3 percent, to 85 cents. The company reported net income of 8.58 million rand in the year through March compared with a loss of 203.5 million rand a year earlier.
