CNN Hires CNBC Anchor Erin Burnett to Host Weekday News Show

April 29 (Bloomberg) -- Time Warner Inc.’s CNN hired Erin Burnett from CNBC as chief business and economics correspondent and host of a weekday general-news program.

Burnett will start in June and be based in New York, the 24-hour news channel said today in an e-mail statement.

CNN added Piers Morgan and other hosts to help refresh its line-up and reverse declining ratings. At CNBC, Burnett hosted “Squawk on the Street” and “Street Signs.” She has reported on business news from China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and covered Iran, Iraq, Libya and Egypt’s revolution, the network said.

Burnett had joined CNBC, the business-news channel now controlled by Comcast Corp., after working at Bloomberg Television.

Time Warner, owner of Warner Bros. and the premium cable channel HBO, gained 63 cents, or 1.7 percent, to $37.86 at 4 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. Before today the shares had climbed 16 percent this year.
