Chilean Stocks: Cencosud, CMPC, La Polar, Sonda and Soquimich

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 3:09 p.m. New York time.

The Ipsa index rose 1.4 percent to 4,822.50.

Cencosud SA (CENCOSUD CC) gained 0.9 percent to 3,636.4 pesos, its highest price in almost four months, and reducing its year-to-date loss to 1.2 percent. Chief Executive Officer Daniel Rodriguez told reporters in Santiago that revenue probably will surpass $14 billion this year from $12.2 billion last year.

Empresas CMPC SA (CMPC CC) rose 2.7 percent to 25,553 pesos, the steepest gain in five weeks. Chile’s second-largest pulp exporter plans to invest $1.3 billion in the next two years, Diario Financiero reported today on its website.

Empresas La Polar SA (LAPOLAR CC) advanced for a fifth day, climbing 0.8 percent to 2,583.2 pesos. The department-store operator said first-quarter profit rose 59 percent from a year earlier to 6.21 billion pesos ($13.5 million), according to a statement posted on the website of Chile’s securities regulator.

Soc. Quimica y Minera de Chile SA (SQM/B CC) rose 3.8 percent to 27,800 pesos, the largest increase in eight weeks. Gains in global crop and energy prices signaled higher demand for Chile’s largest fertilizer producer.

Sonda SA (SONDA CC) advanced 2 percent to 1,324.6 pesos. Chile’s largest information technology company sees sales that could surpass $1 billion this year, Diario Financiero wrote April 28, citing Chief Executive Officer Raul Vejar.
