Zarubezhstroy Plans Power Plant in Tanzania, Guardian Reports

April 20 (Bloomberg) -- Zarubezhstroy OJSC plans to build a hydropower plant in Tanzania that may generate as much as 464 megawatts of electricity, the Guardian reported, citing Chairman Razmik Tarverdyan,

The Russian company will invest $700 million in the Rumakali hydropower project, which will initially generate 222 megawatts, the Dar es Salaam-based newspaper said. Zarubezhstroy is also involved in developing the 750-megawatt Karuma hydropower plant in neighboring Uganda, it said.

Separately, Kalahari Energy Ltd. is exploring opportunities in Tanzania’s geothermal power industry in and around Lake Tanganyika, the newspaper said, without providing further details.
