April 2 (Bloomberg) -- Arsenal is preparing a 10 million-pound ($16 million) bid for Everton defender Leighton Baines, the Daily Mail said.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is worried that current left back Gael Clichy will not re-sign with the club when his contract expires at the end of next season, the Mail said. Should the club elect to sell Clichy, Baines is the wanted replacement, the newspaper said.
Arsenal is aware that Baines is settled into life in northwest England and could face a challenge in persuading him to move, the Mail said. The Gunners have also looked at Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre, the newspaper said.
