March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Stocks of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 1:30 p.m. close, unless stated otherwise.
The Taiex Index rose 33.96, or 0.4 percent, to 8,747.75.
Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. (2106 TT) gained 1.5 percent to NT$34. The company and Changhua county government in central Taiwan signed an agreement to develop a NT$10 billion ($341 million) science park that may create 1,500 jobs, the tire maker said in a statement to the Taiwan stock exchange yesterday.
MPI Corp. (6223 TT) surged 5.8 percent to a record NT$136. The semiconductor company said February sales jumped 94 percent to NT$310 million from a year earlier.
Prolific Technology Inc. (6233 TT) advanced 1.3 percent to NT$34.25. The electronics company said February sales gained 35 percent to NT$58 million from a year earlier.
Want Want China Holdings Ltd. (9151 TT) dropped 2.4 percent to NT$24.40, the most since Feb. 24. The company said full-year net income was $358 million, according to a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange. That compares with the average $370 million of 16 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
