March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Barcelona beat 10-man Arsenal 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of soccer’s Champions League.
Lionel Messi scored two goals and Xavi Hernandez had one to give Barcelona a 4-3 win over the two-match series. Robin van Persie was sent off in the 56th minute for Arsenal, which got a score from an own goal by Sergio Busquets.
Shakhtar Donetsk beat Roma 3-0 to move into the final eight for the first time. Tomas Hubschman, Willian and Eduardo da Silva scored as Shaktar completed a 6-2 victory over the two games.
