Riesch Beats Vonn in World Cup Super-G; Matt Wins Men’s Slalom

Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Maria Riesch beat World Cup rival Lindsey Vonn in today’s super-G to stretch her lead atop the overall standings, while Austria’s Mario Matt won the men’s slalom.

Riesch clocked 1 minute, 13.24 seconds in Are, Sweden, to edge the American by one-hundredth of a second. Julia Mancuso of the U.S. was third.

The 26-year Riesch moves to 1,516 points in the overall competition, with Vonn on 1,320. Vonn, 26, remains top in the super-G standings with a 131-point advantage over Riesch.

Matt finished ahead of countryman Reinfried Herbst and France’s Jean-Baptiste Grange in Bansko, Bulgaria, today. Overall World Cup leader Ivica Kostelic of Croatia, who did not finish his first run, still tops the slalom standings.
