Imperial, Super Group, Transpaco: South African Stocks Preview

The following is a list of companies whose shares may have unusual price changes in South Africa.

Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names and prices are from the last close.

South Africa’s FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index dropped the most since Jan. 28, losing 362.47, or 1.1 percent, to 32,444.20 at the 5 p.m. close in Johannesburg.

ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd. (ACL SJ): The continent’s largest steelmaker may face increased competition in South Africa after Lazarus Zim’s Afripalm Resources signed a deal with Steel Authority of India Ltd. to build a 21 billion rand ($2.9 billion) mill, Business Day reported. Shares in the unit of ArcelorMittal decreased 0.3 percent to 90.23 rand.

Imperial Holdings Ltd. (IPL SJ): The country’s largest auto-dealer said net income rose to 1.38 billion rand in the six months to Dec. 31, from 1.01 billion rand a year earlier. Shares in the company fell 16 cents, or 0.1 percent, to 114.25 rand.

Kelly Group Ltd. (KEL SJ): The staffing company holds an investor and quarterly earnings update. Shares in Kelly declined 35 cents, or 8.1 percent, to 4 rand.

Rolfes Technology Holdings Ltd. (RLF SJ): The color pigment manufacturing company said sales in the six months through December climbed 18 percent to 228.7 million rand. Shares in the company were unchanged at 1.75 rand.

Super Group Ltd. (SPG SJ): The transport services provider said headline earnings from continuing operations more than doubled to 154.4 million rand in the six months through December, from 71.9 million rand a year earlier. Super Group added 1 cent, or 1.4 percent, to 75 cents.

Transpaco Ltd. (TPC SJ): The South African paper and packaging distributor said fiscal first-half earnings per share increased 14 percent to 1.42 rand. Shares in the company dropped 3.7 percent to 13.20 rand.

Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUKY US) fell 1.2 percent to $25.64. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) added 0.7 percent to $47.88. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) lost 0.7 percent to $76.79. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) gained 0.2 percent to $4.63. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) was unchanged at $17.29. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) added 1.1 percent to $11.36. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) lost 3.3 percent to $29.20. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) retreated almost 3 percent $5.21. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) gained 0.3 percent to $51.40.
