Time Warner’s ‘Unknown’ Is Top Film With $21.8 Million in Sales

The action film “Unknown,” from Time Warner Inc., finished as the top film in U.S. and Canadian theaters over the Presidents Day weekend with $21.8 million in sales.

The science-fiction thriller “I Am Number Four” was second, taking in $19.5 million in ticket sales for Walt Disney Co. and DreamWorks Studios, researcher Box-Office said today in an e-mailed statement.

“Unknown” stars Liam Neeson as a mild-mannered botanist who wakes up from a coma to find that another man has stolen his identity, job and wife. His fear and confusion is compounded when assassins try to take his life. January Jones and Aidan Quinn co-star.

“I Am Number Four” stars Alex Pettyfer as a teenager who goes on the run after discovering that he possesses extraordinary powers. Timothy Olyphant co-stars. The film was produced by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios and distributed by Burbank, California-based Disney.

“Gnomeo & Juliet,” from Disney, remained in third place with sales of $19.4 million. The animated film, about romance among garden gnomes, features the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt and Maggie Smith.
