Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Poronin, the Polish town where Vladimir Lenin lived before the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, wants to bring back a statue of the founder of the Soviet Union in a bid to attract tourists, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.

The three-ton bronze statue, now on display in a museum of communist monuments, would be “a marketing opportunity” in the capitalist era, councilman Kazimierz Czekaj, a member of the ruling Civic Platform, told the newspaper.

The restoration of the statue is opposed by Stefan Niesiolowski, a Platform member and deputy speaker of parliament, whose plot to blow up the statue in the 1970s was thwarted by the communist-era secret services, the newspaper reported.
