Mike Singletary said he will join former teammate Leslie Frazier’s coaching staff with the Minnesota Vikings.
“I will be in Minnesota with Les,” Singletary, who was fired in December as coach of the San Francisco 49ers, said in an interview with ESPN 1000 in Chicago. “I will be linebackers coach and assistant head coach.”
An e-mail seeking confirmation from Bob Hagan, a spokesman for the Vikings, wasn’t immediately returned.
Singletary, 52, and Frazier, 51, played together from 1981 to 1985 with the Chicago Bears.
Singletary, a Hall of Fame linebacker, was fired Dec. 27 with the 49ers at 5-10 and assured of missing the playoffs for the eighth straight season. He went 18-22 since replacing Mike Nolan during the 2008 campaign.
Frazier was named the Vikings’ coach on Jan. 3 after going 3-3 on an interim basis following Brad Childress’s firing. The Vikings went 6-10 to miss the National Football League playoffs.
