Jan. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc said it appointed Li Cui as its chief China economist, replacing Ben Simpfendorfer who recently left the company.
Cui is joining the bank from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority where she served primarily as head of the external division, responsible for overseeing research on mainland China macroeconomic and financial-sector issues, RBS said in an e-mailed statement today.
Cui worked for the International Monetary Fund for eight years which included a position as senior economist focusing on China, the statement said. Cui, who will be based in Hong Kong, holds a Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University.
Simpfendorfer, who left the bank to set up a consulting company, Silk Road Associates Ltd., will remain as consultant to the bank, the statement said.
