Jan. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is giving every Kuwaiti citizen 1,000 dinars ($3,560) on the occasion of Kuwait’s 50th anniversary of independence, the state news agency KUNA reported.
The emir is also offering free food rations for 13 months starting next month, KUNA said, without elaborating, and citing State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan al-Roudhan. The grants are also to mark Kuwait’s 20th anniversary of liberation from occupying Iraqi forces, according to KUNA.
Kuwait celebrates national day on Feb. 25 and liberation day on Feb. 26.
The country’s population of 3.6 million included 1.12 million Kuwait citizens as of June 30 last year.
