Adebayor to Spain
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is ready to sign strker Emmanuel Adebayor, who doesn’t get much playing time at Manchester City because manager Roberto Mancini sees him as a “troublemaker,” the Daily Mirror said.
Real is willing to pay a 1 million pound ($1.6 million) transfer fee as well as pick up the player’s 160,000 pounds-a-week salary, the newspaper said. That probably gives the Spanish club the advantage over Monaco and Fulham, which also have interest in the Togo national team player, but which don’t want to pay his entire salary, the newspaper said.
Mourinho wants another striker because a back injury threatens to keep Gonzalo Higuain out for the rest of the season, the Mirror said.
Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is uncertain whether he wants to replace Avram Grant at last-place West Ham, the Sun said.
Grant may be out if the club loses to Arsenal at home this weekend, the newspaper said. O’Neill doesn’t want to be known as the coach who got the team relegated, so he isn’t sure he wants to take the position, the Sun said. Former Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is also in the running for the post, the newspaper said.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti may drop striker Didier Drogba to the bench for this weekend’s game with Blackburn to try to get player back into form, the Mirror said.
Drogba and partner Nicolas Anelka haven’t been playing well together, and Ancelotti thinks he may get an improved performance from Drogba, who was diagnosed with malaria earlier this season, the newspaper said.
Blackpool coach Ian Holloway said he’s rejected several offers for captain Charlie Adam and he’ll only allow the midfielder to transfer to a club at the top of the league, the Daily Mail said.
The Scottish national team player has 18 months left on his contract, and Holloway has rejected a 3.5 million pound offer from Aston Villa, the newspaper said.
